The Department of Parks and Recreation, Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is hiring for a Power Mower Operator-Truck Driver in District IV (Kailua, Waimanalo, Kaneohe, Hauula-Kahuku, Waialua) to maintain beautiful landscapes, perform light equipment repairs, and transport mowing equipment between sites. 


What You Will Do:

  • Primarily operate a 72” rotary mower as a regular assignment in mowing turf in parks, medial strips, and traffic triangles.
  • Operate a pickup or flatbed pickup truck and trailer in transporting power mowers between sites.
  • Operate wide-area rotary mower and 7-gang mower.
  • Perform basic daily preventive maintenance and cleaning of equipment and return equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.
  • Other duties as necessary for this position.


Special Work Requirements:

  • The work schedule is from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with varying days off. 
  • Work schedule is subject to change and may be required to work weekends, nights, and holidays. 
  • This position serves as a Disaster Response Worker during declared emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to show competence in the operation of passenger type power mowers and some experience and/or training in the operation of medium trucks.

Applicable Skills:  
  • Knowledge of the operation, capabilities and general maintenance of passenger type power mowers and trucks.
  • Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations governing the operation of motor vehicles on streets and highways.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Ability to operate a medium truck skillfully and safely.
  • Ability to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to power mowers and trucks. 

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
The current vacancy requires possession of:
  1.  A valid Hawaii State driver's license (type 3 or modified 4)
  2. A Hearing Conservation Preservation (HCP) test (completed during pre-employment medical examination)
The above licenses/certificates must be obtained and maintained thereafter as a condition of employment.
