Title: Class A Maintenance Repairman
Purpose:
Under general supervision, inspects, cleans, fuels, parks, and performs basic service and minor repairs on all vehicles; removes, empties, and replaces cash-vaults on company vehicles. Responsible for vehicle readiness, minor repairs, and ensuring safe operations.
Competencies:
• Moves buses and other company vehicles safely, including on public streets.
• Operates automated equipment (bus wash) and hand tools.
• Performs minor repairs, replaces lights, wipers, and other small components.
• Monitors fluid levels, adds fluids, and maintains accurate logs.
• Maintains fuel-island cleanliness and safe working conditions.
• Reads and understands manuals, data sheets, and basic arithmetic.
• Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
• Uses tablets and smart devices for work assignments and reporting.
• Works independently or as part of a team.
• Customer service, interpersonal, and safety skills.
• Basic computer skills (Fleet Watch, MMS).
Essential Functions:
• Work with minimal supervision in any weather conditions.
• Inspect vehicles for defects, broken components, and fluid levels.
• Add fluids and maintain accurate logs for vehicles serviced.
• Remove, empty, and replace cash-vaults; report defects.
• Clean vehicle exteriors using automated and manual methods.
• Follow written and verbal instructions; complete reports.
• Practice all safety rules and wear required PPE.
• Attend pre-shift meetings and report unsafe conditions.
• Operate buses safely, including backing up and maneuvering trailers.
• Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.
Other Duties:
• Assist other employees in section work.
• Refer unusual situations to supervisor.
• Perform additional job-related duties as needed.
• Perform other maintenance tasks as assigned.
Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements:
• Valid TN Class “B” CDL with a “P” Endorsement; meet safe driving standards.
• Safety-sensitive position; subject to all testing provisions under Drug and Alcohol Policy.
• Must be available to work five consecutive days, including weekends/holidays.
• Any additional licenses or training required by the company.
Knowledge and Capabilities:
• English proficiency to read bulletins, instructions, and fill out forms.
• Ability to quickly learn and safely operate tools and equipment.
• Maintain safe working conditions and follow safety practices.
• Work independently or in a team environment.
• Complete reports and maintain records accurately.
• React productively to change and handle new tasks.
• Maintain bus and forklift driving skills.
Physical Demands:
• Medium to Heavy Duty Work: occasionally lifts up to 50 lbs independently; may lift over 100 lbs with assistance.
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and reaching.
• Frequent use of hands for grasping and fine manipulation; occasional use of feet.
• Occasional exposure to vibration from hand tools.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Handle cleaning products, solvents, diesel fuel, motor oil, DEF, and coolant.
• Must be physically able to operate buses, fuel equipment, and handle vehicle maintenance tasks safely.
